A Korean bronze, Unified Silla period or earlier, standing figure of Buddha

SKU: 10

A Korean bronze, Unified Silla period or earlier, standing figure of Buddha; the left hand in the gesture of protection and the right in the gesture of explaining the Dharma, vitarkamudra. Large mounting pegs at the back.

The argument for an earlier dating, into the C6th AD, of the Buddha is based upon the projection of the garments to the side. This can be seen in Buddha image from the Northern Wei period; C5-6th. This style of garment was adopted on early Korean Buddhas, with the adoption of Buddhism from China.

Dimensions: 24cm in height.
